Service to Others

Service to others is an important part of spiritual life for members of the herchurch community. We support community organizations, including the SAGE (Standing Against Global Exploitation) project and the San Francisco Night Ministry, with donations and by collecting toiletries for these organizations in our sanctuary entryway.

Our members are also involved in several community service initiatives. Please visit our Events page for upcoming opportunities.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15TH herchurch is serving/providing the Friendship Banquet. We need help from 2PM to 5PM at Old First Presbyterian in San Francisco. Pastor Stacy is preparing a main dish; we will put together a hearty salads and prepare any needed side dishes.  Items needed:  Dessert, table candies, dinner rolls.  We serve 42 folks.  Details and directions to follow. Those who have served have made new, great friendships! Please talk to and/or email Kathryn Wagner if you can help:  kawagner48@gmail.com

The Friendship Banquet was founded in 1991 in order to build community with indigent, HIV-positive men, women and children.  Since that time, thousands of volunteers from a myriad of organizations have served thousands of meals to Banquet guests.  Most Banquet guests are homeless or live in temporary housing in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District.  In addition to the challenges they face battling a life-threatening illness, many also struggle with substance abuse and/or physical, mental and dental health disabilities.  Banquet guests are served a 3-course meal in a warm and cozy setting–a Welcome respite from their daily struggles.  Banquet guests eat nourishing food and have the opportunity to socialize with their peers, friends and families.

Ways to help others:

herchurch budget (from your offerings) and herchurch volunteers support the San Francisco Night Ministry and SF Cares which primarily attend to needs of homeless women, men and children and those with other acute emergencies.

We/herchurch periodically prepares 200 sandwich/lunch bags for the Night Ministry’s Sunday afternoon open Cathedral.
