Basic Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga at herchurch, taught by certified Kundalini Instructor Alison Newvine,

is now happening Tuesday evenings from 6:15-7:45pm

This is a beginner level class that teaches basic Kundalini postures, breathing techniques and mantra that help the individual cope with stress, increase strength and flexibility, and explore her connection with the divine.  Classes are all offered by donation, $10-15 suggested contribution, no one is turned away for lack of funds.  Visit www.yogainthebellyofthegoddess.org for more information.

Adapted Kundalini Yoga
Friday 10:30 AM - 12:00 noon
This class is designed for older students or those with physical needs that could prevent them from reaping the advantages of a conventionally taught class.  In this class, students will have the option of sitting in chairs, versus on the floor, and the physical portion of the practice will be less strenuous than that of a typical Kundalini Yoga class.

It is best not to eat for an hour and a half before class.  Please bring a yoga mat if you have one and want to use it as well as any other props you might like to have handy, such as a towel, blanket or pillow to give yourself support in seated postures and for comfort during relaxation.  Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended.  Drinking water before, during and especially after class is strongly encouraged.

Kundalini Yoga is an ancient practice that utilizes physical postures (asana), dynamic breathwork (pranayam), chanting (mantra) and meditation to balance the energies of the body, focus the mind and awaken the Kundalini energy that lies coiled, like a wise, sleeping serpent, deep within us.  Kundalini is the Energy of Awareness.  Yoga means union, the recognition that the individual consciousness and Cosmic Consciousness are One.  Kundalini Yoga is a spiritual technology we can employ to experience our connection with All That Is and to expand our awareness beyond the constraints our minds put on our experience.

In addition to strengthening the nervous and glandular systems, stretching and building muscles, increasing circulation and cleansing the body, Kundalini Yoga enables us to deepen our relationship with ourselves and enrich our relationships with others.  After being taught in secret in India for hundreds of years to select initiates, Yogi Bhajan  brought Kundalini Yoga the west and taught it publicly for the first time in 1969.  He saw that the benefits one can reap from this practice, such as the ability to gracefully deal with stress and adapt to and evolve with a rapidly changing world, would be of tremendous value to all people during this time of transition from the Piscean Age, characterized by self interest, technological advancement, and violence, into the Aquarian Age of interconnectedness direct experience and a reassertion of the power of the Sacred Feminine.  Kundalini Yoga is a time tested and efficient means of changing our limitations into opportunities for creative transformation and expansion.

Alison Newvine became a teacher in order to share her passion for Kundalini Yoga with others.  “Through this practice, I experience the Goddess within myself and feel my heart open into a love for all human beings that is deeper and stronger than I was able to feel before.  I know I am blessed to have received these teachings and to be able to share this sacred art with others.”  She began her training at the Guru Ram Das Ashram in San Francisco in June, 2010, began teaching in August and will be fully certified through KRI (the Kundalini Research Institute) this April.  She is looking forward to bringing her enthusiasm and love for Kundalini Yoga to as many people as she can, offering her services in fitness centers and by donation in churches and community centers.
